Do you offer commissions as a beta reader?

I can’t say as I don’t know what this means?

EDIT: Thanks for the replies explaining! I haven’t done that before but if anon thinks I would provide a valuable service worth monetary compensation, then I would be a fool to say no. @ anon send me a private message and we could talk at least :P

Hey! I just wanted to ask what your opinion is on White characters assimilating into non-white cultures in fantasy. Like, if they marry into it or just move there and decide to do the cultural stuff from there and even consider themselves to be one of the people there, is there any big problems in this particular area that people should be aware of?

It depends on how it’s handled. Most of the time it’s handled like the Mighty Whitey trope, is the problem. But if you’re confident you can avoid the pitfalls of that trope, then I don’t see a problem.

In canon, there’s the DA:I multiplayer character, Hall, who was abandoned as an infant and raised by Dalish elves who did not want to just leave a baby to die. There’s nothing that jumps out that trope with that story.

In my own fic Journey’s End, Sulan’s father was permitted to stay with Clan Aradin to help raise him, and would have had he not died. Sulan’s father is not a mighty whitey in that regard; he was just a man who wanted to support his family and support his partner’s desire to raise their child within her culture.

If you want a good example on what to avoid, I recommend looking up online the X-Men Animated Series episode Cold Vengeance.
